Los Angeles, the second largest city in the United States, is a sprawling city that stretches from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. It is therefore possible to run in Los Angeles, ski and swim in the same day!
Los Angeles was founded in 1781 on the lands of an ancient Tongva Indian village by the Spanish governor of California. The city of Los Angeles is now considered by urban planners and geographers as the model and prefiguration of the American metropolises' development. While the popular adage goes : "no one walks in L.A.", many parts of the city are heavily pedestrianised, especially in the downtown area and in the many commercial districts. The Venice Beach 10K will welcome runners on a special asphalt path along the waterfront. The city has also organised a famous marathon every year since 1986, from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica. If, in terms of urban planning, Los Angeles is characterised by the absence of a real central district, you can observe the current renewal of its Downtown area, driven by the municipality over the last twenty years. Among the emblematic buildings, you can walk along the Walt Disney Concert Hall and discover the very recent Notre-Dame des Anges cathedral.
